  1. I personally love the way Gloria Steinem speak and the way she carries herself with such a self knowledge that leaves a great impact. Just by ready about how she feels, one can tell that there is no doubt in her mind wat she is feeling. On a different note, i love how complex her sentences arw. They made me stop and think about how even in our class and on our blog posts, our sentences are basic- but hers arent and i think to myself why is that? Y cant our generation meet those standards? Maybe its just me; that i cant reach those standards and i dont understand why cause i find her writing beautifully complex.

  2. Gloria Steinem really did an amazing job while writing this essay. She explained the difference between men and women and she definitely was correct. As a young women, I can relate to some of the stuff she said because people view us in a particular way. I think the world look at us women as the weakest gender and I’m not sure why. A women is able to do everything a man can do because we are all human. Steinem also stated that a girl can be beautiful but when their in the magazines or modeling, their considered anorexic. Overall, the essay was extremely informative and it made me think how women are really stronger than the society think we are.

  3. I personally didn't care for this essay. Throughout the reading, I never found something that sparked my interest. She explained the typical roles that women were bound to. Like how in some countries women "belonged" to men. But I didn't really care about her explaining her personal experiences about sport avoidance.

  4. Gloria Steinem compares and contrast how woman's roles in gender politics, cultural differences, strength differences, sexual politics, and patriarchal standards. Woman seem to be oppressed by men because of their physical strength. Personally, I don't see this as big of an issue today because society has kind of accepted woman to be whoever they want to be in their sexuality, career, personal, and social lives. Overall, I didn't find this essay really interesting.

  5. with just reading the first two pages I find this very negative. All that is being reflected is what women in her time are not allowed to do. I wasn't a fan when I read that women's bodies then became symbols of men's status. But I just want to point out that in our society today this certain issue has reduced to a minimum.

  6. The essay does not interest me at all. I might miss a few point in commenting this because i was getting bored and started to skim through it, but I see the main point of the essay is talking about how women are compared to men. She talks about how there were cultural differences and that girls look weak compared to men, but i was thinking that, that was during her time. She also talks about how girls don't do much sports too. Now in society both genders are equal and that there is no difference. Overall i didn't really care about the difference she was talking about throughout the essay.

  7. as I read this story I agreed with the author because its true, girls in the past were only looked upon because their body structures. And I hate to admit this but some girl are even treated like that in today society.

  8. In this essay by Gloria Steinem, Gloria talks about how women follow an image of trying to be fragile and attractive. I agree many women are more focused on looks while men are more focused on strength. It must take a lot for a woman to get into bodybuilding. She can’t only be strong in her arms and legs but she must also be strong in her mind. Woman have a fragile image now and its nothing compared to 50 years ago.

  9. When I read the essay it didn't really spark my interest. I mean we all know the role women played in her generation. It's almost like that today. Yes, women in this generation now play sports such as tennis. basketball, softball, and in high school some girls play football but women still care about how they look or how they are suppose to look. When Gloria Steinem said "The power lies not within us but in the gaze of the observer," that is exactly what our generation of women today is like. When most of us get dress in the morning or go to the gym its not about what we like, its about what others will like or what they will think.

  10. I believe we will be learning about how women were or are being mistreated in the world and how they are compared to men. I guess this essay by Gloria Steinem's most likely was written before Title IX because Title IX made it illegal for women to be discriminated in sports. In Steinem's essay all she talks about is how women were not treated the same as men were and how women suffered.

  11. In today society, women are changing and becoming stronger. I agree with the author of the fact that society is afraid of women being strong, but fear comes from change. Men were used to see women being weak, and are afraid of rebellion. Women deserve the same equality as men.

  12. When Gloria Steinem talks about how women were judged by the way they looked I thought of how it still happens today. That is why some girls mostly care about their image instead in their abilities. Women can do so much more than just look pretty. They can do anything a man can do

  13. Gloria Steinem describes the role women had when she was young. they had to do things certain ways and men had to do the same. the way their body had to look or move meant everything. now a days women can do anything men can do and sometimes twice as better. women have more equality than before but there is always going to be that way that other people think.

  14. Gloria Steinem portrays the role women had to play. Even to this day, a woman's appeal is very important. Even though women have the ability to do the things men do, there is still inequality between them. An image is still very important, whether its to get a job or catch a guy's attention. It's true that women have evolved and can be seen an image of superiority. I think that even today, women are looked as more fragile or delicate than men which causes men to undermine women. Steinem says that the strength difference between men and women is within gender mind. It's true, girls portray themselves as someone who needs a strong man, that leads them to think that men have more strength. If a woman would look at herself as independent and strong then she will be. She wouldn't think that a man had more superiority than she.If a woman wants things to change then she has to make it change.

  15. Gloria Steinem does explain a lot about the roles women had to be and how women were suppose to look like which was interesting because that was a big issue in the past. Although I understand now that it is has improved extremely of how women are treated but it is still as issue of not being treated equally to men.

  16. This essay talks about how girls were compared to guys, how girls were not capable of doing thing that men capable of. At first she refers back when all the girls did not participate on any sports activities. Pretty much this essay is really boring and hard to understand, and it did not interested my a bit. From what i read i think this essay is directed to women so they could understand that their physical strength does not matter.

  17. Gloria Steinem in The Politics of Muscle mentions the idea of how women are seen in the eyes of society. Society thinks that women having strong physical appearance is not admirable. This give women the possibility of not needing of men to do hard labor. That is why society puts strong women to shame. A women that is admired is one who is weak, they need of men and obey that is told. I feel that women should be independent and not need of any women because gaining independence is power, power of voice to stand up for their rights. Even today some part of society sees a strong physical appearance in a women as unfeminine. We have to break the norms and give right and equality to all the liberty to choose how they want to be and look.
