John Mcphee uses very descriptive language. He makes me feel as if I am actually there. Mcphee was attracted by Fred's house and Fred kindly invited him to come inside. Mcphee writing made me engage into this book, however, I do not understand the concept of the essay. It describes the house and other things but I can't grasp the idea of it. I also think Mcphee and Fred are a bit spiritual because he asks for some water and Fred says "That's God's water".
The author is amazing. He uses all of the five to develope concrete details and he takes his time describing everything he sees and feels. The authors wiring reflects who he is as a person; his sole purpose for being in pine was to see the forest which seems so untouched. He explains all his characters in the same light of mistory.
What I liked most about this essay was the descriptive language. John McPhee is a really good author. He was in the pines because it was like the only place that hasn't transformed in a city. It was so pure and untouched, he couldn't believe it. I don't really understand the point McPhee is trying to prove the essay though.
McPhee paints such a colorful picture. It is very easy to imagine all the little details. Fred comes off as a warm hearted person. He offers food and shows a picture of the woman he's been recently seeing. He doesn't seem afraid to speak his mind. Unlike Fred, Bill is very quiet and timid. He relys on others. He only spoke about the jetport issue because it is a conflict that really bothers him. The author includes the poem to better understand the essay but I don't really see a connection.
McPhee does an incredible job at creating a vivd picture that allows me to interact and visualize the scenario. I really enjoyed the poem because it helped me understand and interpret why Bill likes his home. It seems as though he likes the natures beauty and peace that it brings to mind, unlike cities it is loud and full of traffic. I really enjoyed this essay because I love and appreciate nature .
The Imagery “Pine’s” creates a vibrant picture. The Pines have a lot of nature with big trees that Mcphee take of advantage of by being very descriptive of pines untouched areas. What I liked the most of the story was the odd characters like Fred who is a seventy-nine year old man who appears to be in his early sixties because of great physical condition.
I didn't really understand this story at first and it took me more than once to read it and know what McPhee was saying. His details were very descriptive of what the pines were really like. he seems to be at peace with nature. the way he described Fred Brown was very vivid that I can imagine the way he looked.
McPhee really did a good job painting a picture in my head about the house. When he was describing the house it felt like I was looking at a portrait of the house. I also like the way that Fred allowed him to enter his house and was a kind hearted person. I wanted to point out my favorite part of the essay and that was when McPhee included the poem which read God hath not promised Sun without rain Joy without sorrow Peace without pain. This really spoke to me in a deeper meaning
The way the author describes the scenery makes it easy for the reader to imagine everything that he sees as he approaches the two story house. Fred Brown doesn't question why he's there and is quiet talkative while his friend, Bill is quite the opposite. They both truly care about the wilderness and that is something I can truly relate to.
The way McPhee described the house really grasped my attention. I was attracted to the way he was able somewhat paint a picture of the house into my head. I felt as if I was in front of the house looking at it myself. He also took his time to create an image of Fred as a person who is in fit condition looking to be in his sixties.
I believe that the illustration that McPhee gives is very descriptive and detailed oriented. He speaks his mind out and helps the reader understand what he is trying to say. It is also understandable into why he cares about the pines since he sees them as his home. A place in which the city hasn't taken over, for the fact that he predicts that in 2015 the trees will go to extinction. In addition, I really enjoy his poem since it supports his idea into why he cares so much about these trees.
I like how it describes the Pines and its lovely environment and how it has yet to be disturbed by humanity. I think what McPhee is trying to do with this essay is to inform humanity of how lovely mother nature can be if we just left it alone. I think this national park has ben left alone due to the fact that there are other national parks that are more known than The Pines.
The description the author gives is very colorful. Almost in every paragraph i see him feeding us more and more descriptive characteristic. I like how i read on the story and it's like playing a picture movie in my head. I see how Fred is in the kitchen cooking the pork chop and as he is looking in the window BIll is sitting there looking down is toe. One thing i was having hard time to understand with the book is the poem that he gives and the critical thinking that tries to keep us connected. what connection does it make between God's hath not promised and how the people going to take away the forest for cities? I see how come at the last few paragraph Bill started talking, because he was not interested in the topics that was going on between the author and Fred. Another reason that he probably started talking was because he was hoping to stay in a place like the pines, which explains why he said he traveled a bit too. Overall the story was painted as a picture movie as i read along.
I really enjoyed how detailed McPhee was on the house and the scenery, i love it when an author can give me a picture in my head while reading the story and McPhee did it very well that i can see what he sees and feel what he feels. I can tell that he cares for nature and he sees it more meaningful than others may see it and wants others to see nature how he sees it as.
I didn’t really understand this story. John McPhee describes the scenery and setting a little too much for me. The way he described the pines made me feel like I am actually there if I just close my eyes and imagine, sort of like a dream. This story also has two characters that have a very country mentality. They are very nice as they show their southern hospitality and they are down to earth. This story is a little unclear, however it makes me imagine like I’m in a dream
John McPhee author of The Pines uses descriptive diction. His choice of words makes the reader picture a very vivid environment in which they feel that they are part of what is occurring. It also show how Fred and older character thinks. Just like older people of today he is more conservative and loves the woods where the pines are because he finds tranquility an peace versus the city which he has also explored. The imagery the author uses also helps us see what Fred sees the love for nature and how it truly is the best.
Even though McPhee's essay is very descriptive, i didn't enjoy it. I found myself getting bored. I think he focused too much on describing things that it made his story a bit unclear. I do think he is trying to let readers know how much he cares about nature and doesn't want to see it be transformed into a city. I felt like if he stalled so much about what he was trying to tell the reader the whole time.
