  1. In the beginning of the essay, I can definitely tell that Alice was a little lady and she dressed fancy. However, I noticed she became a tomboy. Alice eye became messed up when she was shot with a BB gun and all she could remember was a tree. Alice really was use to being beautiful and she prayed for beauty instead of sight, which was weird to me. I loved the fact that she eventually learned to love herself. I think the concept of this essay is to say we all go through things but we have to learn how to appreciate life. Overall, I enjoyed the essay.

  2. Alice first started off being self confident and obsess with looking good in front of people, but after she got shot by her brothers with a BB gun, she seems down and depressed. She didn't raise her head to anyone, but because she raised her head she had gotten back her confident. After reading that part, it kind of sounded to me like a life lesson: where you drop down off your feet should be the same exact place where you should stand back up. Because she raised back her heads she gotten better grades in class, got the boyfriend of her dreams, and made friends. The essay is not all that interesting to me, but i kind of don't like how her brothers put words into her mouth and made up a lie to tell the mother so they don't get in trouble.

  3. This essay was about a girl that was caught up with her own personal beauty. But when something drastic happened to her physical appearance everything changed. After a while she learned to love herself again when she became a tom boy. The message I got from her essay was love yourself for who you are and don’t try to be something or someone your not.

  4. I enjoyed reading this passage. It took years for Walker to love herself inside and out. But, it took someone else to love her imperfection first. She realized that being valedictorian, winning prom queen, and being the most popular girl in school didn't matter anymore because she finally accepted her imperfections and loved them.

  5. I think that so many people can relate to Alice Walker. Everyone has flaws and insecurities about themselves. Each flaw makes you the person you are. Sometimes it takes other people to acknowledge your beauty for you to notice it. I'm not going to lie, I've judged others and i know many people who do as well, but after reading her story, I've realized that people are going to judge you not matter what but it shouldn't matter as long as you love yourself. No one is perfect. Walker talks about how she was getting ready to protect herself because her daughter was focusing in her eye. Walker expected her to say something mean or thoughtless about her eye but she said the complete opposite. Just because you might not find something beautiful about yourself, don't mean other won't. I really enjoyed reading her story.

  6. I considered Alice Walker as a typical american who only care about their external beauty. As the story went on, I realized that Walker started to change due to the thought that her daughter might grow up as one of the kids that used to make fun of her for her scar. Now Walker sees her scar as a life changing memory.

  7. Thiis short essay was an enjoyable reading to me because it makes adults realize those things that they thought was important don't really matter now. What matters now is who they are and how to love and appreciate who they are today. Some of the things we may not be happy with ourselves but they make us different from everybody else and that's how Walker learned to accept herself with her flaws.

  8. When reading this story there are plenty of girls who could relate. Alice walker was a girl who didn't accept anything less than being beautiful. She had to learn how to love herself and her imperfections. But it took someone else to love her imperfections and show her how to do the same. In my opinion this a lesson we all must learn in life. We are born with traits we don't like and we have to learn to love them and sometimes it takes others to do so first.

  9. I think this was the first essay that I enjoyed. I stayed focused and knew what was happening all along. Alice Walker does great on explaining her childhood moments and I can visualize everything she went through. when she got shot in the eye she felt that a piece of her had died. up until growing up, she always thought that her eye made her ugly. that nobody would ever see her the as the princess she once was. her daughter helped her move on from the incident that occurred over 20 years ago. she made her feel good about herself and whatever she thought her daughter loved she loved it as well. I felt the heartwarming feeling Alice felt when her daughter loved her "world" in her eye. its like she broke free from all insecurities.

  10. This was a very interesting essay to me because it shows how Alice is scared because of an accident. Alice was a vey beautiful girl that was injured while playing Cowboys and Indians with her brother. She was injured and now her eyes did not look the same and people would point that out making Alice fell bad about herself. Women/girls are mainly judged by society by looks and not talents and Alice looks was damaged causing her to feel bad about herself. I feel that this essay can motivate many people that do not feel good about their looks to look past that because it does not matter what people think of us its what we think of ourselves.

  11. Alice Walker in Beauty: when the other dancer is the self, narrates the life of a girl that has an accent which causes her life to change completely. At first the author presents this strong confident child that sought the world as her because of her beauty, but then her confidence begins to die because she sees herself as ugly. Her head always down never seeing the world as it is because they she says that people just stare at it and some children by nature are cruel with their comments. She finally gets an operation which allows here to become strong again meeting the boyfriend of her dreams graduating with honors. When she has her children that suddenly changes she feels that here daughter will feel embarrassed of her, her daughter makes her realize that she needs to love herself. Because a child will love a parents with all their mistakes and flaws. When we realize that we make the world that we want we start to live and feel beautiful one again.

  12. Alice Walker is the typical girl who only cares about her appearance. Because of her incident she taught she was forever ugly, she felt as if she will never be that beautiful girl again. The thing she didn't understand was that she was still beautiful even if there one flaw
