Sanders did a wonderful job writing this essay. As a young boy all he seen was the kind of men he grew up around and how "Easy" women had it. He thought men worked their butts off 7 days a week, twenty-four hours a day and women just did household jobs. And when reading this essay it shows how much the times have changed. Back then Sanders didn't know how miserable it was for women to just to do household jobs and take care of kids. They wanted to share the same glory as men. Nowadays women have to work just as hard as mean to have a decent living. I also like in the essay how Sanders starts to understand women and really wants the same thing they want, He just didn't know how to relate to them that it wasn't just about his sex. He wanted to work in a office, have enough money at the end of the month, he didn't want to have to struggle everyday and break his back like most men. He wanted the same exact thing as women.
It's incredible to e how a writer with this level of skill can talk about the same thing over and over again but still manage to not sound repetitive. Mr. Sanders is a very well spoken and presented writer; he uses "--" in his writing alot and to me useing that symbol while writing is very difficult. Sanders talks about his preseption of men in his life and, in a sense, how he views the world. The things that have shaped his vision is how he was raised in a small house, and "in dirt-poor farm country". The girls that Sanders talks about see the world in a completely different light cause they dont understand the hard ships that come along with his past. So the girls critizes him and he still manages to see the piont of view of all walks of life; my favorite part of Sanders writing.
I really liked this essay, especially how Scott Sanders described his world view when he was younger. Throughout his life he saw men either struggling doing hard labor for example, working in factories or farms, or he saw men who were soldiers who had to fight for their country and had no say about it. There wasn't much hope for men to be successful or their kids. Sanders also compares and contrast men to women by saying that while men work in factories the majority of women he saw were in the house and women also lived longer than men. Later he starts to respect women more after going in college after seeing that they share the same goals. I believe that not only males had struggles in the past but females too even to this day and Sanders eventually acknowledges that.
The essay talked about how Sanders saw the world through his eyes. He saw how hard men had to work. They worked so hard that men didn't make it to old age. Seeing everything the men had to go through is what made him want to be more. Especially after he saw his own father progress in a way that most men won't be able to do in their life time. To me this is what inspired him to move on and to go to school to have a better future. He does compare what he saw throughout his life and learned that both male and females had to go through a lot. That women didn't have it as easy as he though. This is what made him realize that everyone has challenges in their own way that that's how they are united.

Sanders experienced a plethora of things during his lifetime. During the years he was born everyone seemed to have worked harder than the world actually works today. Sanders says "And for the first time I met women who told me that men were guilty of having kept all the joys and privileges of the earth for themselves". That specific line mad me feel as if woman had not come to their senses that men were actually more hard-working. Sanders carried different men in his mind versus the ones his college friends carried. Of course Sanders wanted the more luxurious life but he dealt with what he had. The cause of his life were the hardships and the effect was to go to college and earn more than what his father made. Through Sanders entire life I can tell he appreciated everything and understood why the world worked in a certain way.
After reading "the men we carry in our minds" I understand that Sanders always had a picture in his mind that men had to work very hard everyday, while women just stayed home. Sanders experienced all this because of the year he was born. When Sanders mentions that the women he met in college had a different picture of men in their mind, I noticed that, that's when he actually realized that not all men had to work so hard as he thought. In my opinion, women do have a hard job just as men do. They have to work as hard to keep a house clean and take care of children. They have responsibilities just as men do. Sanders, to me, didn't understand that when he was a child. To me I believe Sanders wanted to grow up living a life as a girl because he thought it was much easier.
I really liked this essay because he talks of the different types of men he encountered and knew of throughout his life. he talks about the men in suits and then men who do all the labor work. everybody chooses their own destiny and others are born into it. Scott Russell teaches us how women have just as hard of a job as men do because they have to tend to their kids while maintain a healthy lifestyle for them and their families. if you set your mind to be the best you can be you will be able to do it.
The way Sanders wrote this essay made it sound incredibly sophisticated. The detail he added as describing the different type of people made it quite easy to understand the huge difference a persons life style can impact your point of view in different aspects. After reading this it became very important to me to analyze a situation much before making a judgment on it. For example, as a child my mother always taught me that men want you to stay at home in order to be their slaves however, if you stop and think for a second and analyze the situation from a working mans point of view they might have in mind that they are doing women a favor by letting them stay at home while they do the heavy labor.
According to this passage, the boy proves that both sexes contain an equilibrium of trials and hardships. Even in today's time, men strive to go through the pain of hard labor, whether they work in a building with cool air or letting the sun beat on their bodies. He mentions the struggles of women when they caretake their children while the men attend to their assigned duties. As numerous aspiring learners notice the great challenges of the people, either poor or rich, in their community, they soon realize that their economic standing becomes their motivation in life in order to attain a bright, successful future.
I really enjoyed reading this essay and i thought it was very interesting. To me, this is a perfect example of being totally ignorant and lost, not in a bad way, but being lost simple because one does or dose not live a certain way or life style. The young boy had been used to seeing laborers, men that work non stop and still don't have much after working. He had no idea what kind of jobs women had to do that aren't always noticed and definitely aren't always appreciated .Women that want to be men only want to be the men the reap the benefits of the labor men. I don't think they even think about those men, those who break their backs all day working and still have issues to worry about at home and with the family. Of course nobody wants to be the man that works that hard, but when saying they wish they had the power and responsibilities as men,i think that they should really think about all men, and include all of their hard ships, labors, and responsibilities before saying so
"The men we carry in our minds," written by Scott Sanders illustrates the difference between the hardworking labor men and men who basically "ran the world" (272). I personally like how Sanders starts off with his childhood and then moves on his perspective as an adult; because as children we see men and women as we would see our parents and as adults we see and value the work of our parents. Sanders describes hardworking men as slaves that had been whipped all day. On the other hand, the fathers of the college girls Sanders meet "made decisions that mattered" (272). This phrase stood out to me the most because every men has to make decisions that affect their families, but in the text it is being used as if the fathers of the college girls are more important for the decisions they make. As a young adult I can feel, understand, and see exactly what kind of men we carry in our minds as a women.
Scott Sanders in "The Men We Carry In Our Minds" portrays the idea that people judge based around what they grew up around. They are influenced on the people they see in their daily lives rather then society as a whole. Back then women that were wealth had the power to attend university seeing a the life differently they thought that men "kept all the privileges of the earth for themselves" (270). This was because their fathers and men where bankers people with money. They never saw that there were men that gave their all and worked day and night to take home money to their family, never resting and not being able to reach old age because of the life they lived. Do we judge based on what we see? We do classify people as being certain things based on what they are.
"The Men We Carry in Our Minds" was an interesting essay. Sanders always thought that being a woman was easy; just being at home and take care of the children. As he went to college he did not understood when women told him that "men were guilty of having kept all the joys and priviliges of the earth for themselves." Later, Sanders learned that people judge others by what they have witnessed in their life.
I really enjoyed this essay due to the fact that it showed some what of a short timeline about his life. I like the way he explained who he encountered while growing up and talking to many people. I would say that what I got out of this essay would to not to go straight to a conclusion about a certain person before you actually know the background and what they know. Basically dine judge before you know.
After reading the essay "The men we carry in our minds" by Scott Sanders, I believe that his main focus is on gender roles and social class. Many times, people think that men have to work hard and be the main bread winner in the home. In addition, women were the ones fully responsible of the house work and fulfilling the children and husbands needs. Sanders also mentions that based on your social class standing, would depend on how your life would be. Such as attending college or having to go into the work force. People thought that without any education, you had to someday work your way up to a decent position.
I found his first observation of the black convicts and white guards to be interesting. One of the most common judgments made is based on race. Many children are raised into a world of racism. Scott Sanders makes it clear how people judge on what they see. The difference between the men that work with their bodies and the men that run this world are judged by what they do and look. A man has to look a certain way that connects with what they do. I use to think that a woman's job was just as hard as a man's job. As i continued to read, i had a new perspective. A man's job could be much harder than a woman's. Men are expected to be strong, fast, brave and hard working while women are seen as fragile and delicate which makes their expectation in a job much easier.
In Sanders: The Men We Carry in Our Minds, I liked how Sanders explained the role of men. He gave many examples of what men did before and during his times and that men have evolved by becoming better and changing when changes are needed. for example, Sanders gives an example of a military training ground where soldiers are training incase a war were to happen. Sanders says that its like a playing field when the men (soldiers) are in training but he knows that they will kill when the time will come and many of them will die as well.
It was enjoyable to read Sander's essay, how he expressed himself by starting off with what his first idea of what men were and automatically at a young age understanding and accepting that white men and black mean are treated differently. While growing up he already knew what his future looked was going to be by the men he was surrounded by but knew he didn't want that, but still believe it is unrealistic to be what the white are at his time. Encountering the woman at his college imply that he was the enemy, but he knew she didn't grow up the way he was raised and she didn't see what he say. Because then she would understand that they are in the same position.
What I liked that the most about this essay is that I can relate to it. I too grew up in a very poor environment with hard working people. The men in my life also work them self’s to death just to make ends meet. Just as in Scott Sanders essay the women in my life work typical housewife jobs to support their families.
